Overview

Travel to South Africa and take a trip on the most luxurious train in the world. Your romantic vacation through the heart of Southern Africa will begin or end at the headquarters of this private railway company, Capital Park Station and Locomotive Yard situated outside Pretoria.

Facilities

Suites

Each suite provides luxury accommodation and furnishings, as well as its own en-suite bathroom and shaver plugs. Each individual suite includes air-conditioning and heating for personal comfort. Guests have the option of choosing between twin or double bed arrangements. Staff provide for elegant evening turn downs, lending a touch more refinement and pampering to your rail experience.

Lounges

For relaxation and socialising with fellow passengers, two lounge cars are available. Afternoon high tea is available in the main lounge car, and the very last carriage serves as a lounge observation car. Bar refreshments and snacks are served by staff in both lounges.

Dining

A world class fine dining experience awaits all guests on-board either train. Delectable menus, a wide selection of fine South African Estate wines and attentive service are provided over two sittings for lunch and dinner. Lunch is enjoyed as a smart-casual event, while dinner is jacket and tie for the men, and elegant evening wear for the ladies. Breakfast can be enjoyed in casual wear.

Train Staff

All train excursions are manned by dedicated and qualified staff. Your comfort, safety and enjoyment is paramount on every journey. Each departure is crewed by a train manager, hospitality & room manager, executive chef, sous chef, kitchen staff, waiters and bar staff.

Routes & Rates

Cape Town

Pretoria to Cape Town

  • Day 1 - Depart from Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 15h00. Dinner and overnight on the train.
    • Breakfast 07h00-10h00
    • Lunch 13h00
    • High Tea 16h00
    • Dinner 19h30
  • Day 2 - The train arrives in Kimberley at 09h45. Passengers visit the Big Hole and the Diamond Mine Museum. Depart Kimberley at 12h30 and proceed overnight via De Aar and Beaufort West to Matjiesfontein.
  • Day 3 - Enjoy a visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein at 08h15. The train departs at 10h30 and proceeds via Touws River and Worcester to Cape Town. Arrive at Cape Town Station's Platform 24 at 18h00.

Victoria Falls

Pretoria to Victoria Falls

  • Day 1 - Departs from Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 10h00. Lunch is served in the dining car/s en route to Zeerust. After traversing the Magaliesberg Range, dinner is served as the train heads westwards to Mafikeng for border formalities.
    • Breakfast 07h00-10h00
    • Lunch 13h00
    • High Tea 16h00
    • Dinner 19h30)
  • Day 2 - Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as the train travels northwards through Mahalapye and Serule en route to Plumtree for Zimbabwe border formalities.
  • Day 3 - Breakfast and lunch are served as the train passes through the Hwange Game Reserve and along one of the longest straight stretches of railway line in the world – 114kms – en route to Dete and the Zambezi River. Occasional sightings of wild animals can occur from the train. Arrive in Victoria Falls at 17h00.

Namibia

Pretoria to Namibia

  • Day 1 - Depart from Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 15h00. Dinner is served as the train travels southwest for Kimberley.
    • Breakfast 07h00-10h00
    • Lunch 13h00
    • High Tea 16h00
    • Dinner 19h30)
  • Day 2 - Arrive in Kimberley at 09h45 and enjoy a tour of the Big Hole and Diamond Mine Museum. Depart for Upington as lunch is served.
  • Day 3 - Disembark at 08h00 for a two-hour walking tour of Upington. During lunch the train arrives in Nakop for border formalities. Dinner and overnight on the train.
